Help with your garden

Are you unable to get your garden done? We may be able to help.

Are you eligible for help?

Your tenancy agreement says that you must make sure your garden is tidy. If the garden is overgrown - and there is no good reason why you can't do it - we can clear it and charge you for the work. However, we know that it may be difficult for people who are not physically capable of doing the work themselves. So every year we do free gardening for some people who . . .

  • have a disability (and receive disability benefit)
  • are aged 70 or over
  • has no-one else who can do it for them
  • has a short-term medical condition that prevents them from gardening.
How to apply for gardening help

If you are in any of the groups listed above or have another very good reason why you can't do the work, you can apply for gardening help. Once we receive your application we will visit you within five working days. We will then let you know what we can do, and when we'll do it within ten working days.

Grass cutting and shrubs

If you receive gardening help, this will include grass cutting at least three times between April and September. We will also look after shrubs between October and March.

If you have rent arrears

You will not be eligible for this service if you have rent arrears of more than £500. If the rent arrears are below £500 then you must have maintained satisfactory payments for a minimum period of three months.
