Gas servicing & safety

Keeping you safe, keeping you warm

Making sure the gas appliances in your home are in safe working order is one of the most important services we provide. Faulty boilers and gas fires can kill, and by law we must check all appliances in your home once a year.

We work with fully-qualified gas engineers who check your home to make sure it meets gas safety regulations. As well as giving you peace of mind the checks will ensure appliances are working efficiently, keeping your heating bills down.

Let us in - and win £100

We have a flexible appointments system and will let you know two weeks before the engineer is due to come. If you can't make the appointment please tell us so we can rearrange it for a convenient time.

It is really important that you let us in to carry out these safety checks. If you refuse we can take legal action to make sure we can do this essential work. The legal costs can be passed on to you.

We are unable to fully service appliances that you own - only those owned or installed by City South. We will make a visual inspection and report any problems to you but it is your responsibility to ensure that your appliances are maintained by a registered engineer.

Every tenant who lets our gas safety engineers into their property at the first time of asking is entered into a monthly £100 prize draw.

Carbon monoxide

Poorly maintained gas appliances can give off carbon monoxide. This gas is a silent killer. It has no smell and is invisible but it causes over 30 deaths in England and Wales every year. Regularly serviced appliances are extremely unlikely to give off carbon monoxide.

We are in the process of ensuring that all properties with gas appliances have a carbon monoxide detector fitted. During your gas safety check we will install one free of charge if you don't have one.

Smoke alarms

During your gas safety check we will also check your smoke alarm. If you haven't got one, or yours is faulty, we will install a new one free of charge. All properties having a rewire through the improvement programme will have a new smoke alarm hard wired in as standard. We also ensure that properties without gas have a working smoke alarm.
