Monday 2 June 2008 was a historic day for people living in council housing in Fallowfield, Hulme, Moss Side and Whalley Range.
It’s the start of a brighter future for tenants of the area's 4,500 homes; the day they transferred from Manchester City Council to their new, not-for-profit landlord: City South Manchester Housing Trust.
You and your City South neighbours can now look forward to a share in the £85 million home improvement package that will bring all houses and flats up to decent, modern standards - based on the priorities tenants told us about in the build-up to the transfer.
Just the beginning
Our plans go further than the fantastic improvements coming to every home. We’ll spend another £7 million on upgrades to outdoor spaces, greens, streets, parking and fences. We’ll be at the forefront of wider regeneration of local communities, helping make City South neighbourhoods more pleasant, safer places to live.
A new housing service
City South is now the place to come for all your housing services - from repairs to rent; from rehousing to neighbour disputes. The City Council will continue to deliver other services like education, rubbish collection, social services, leisure and library facilities.
City South Manchester is run by a 12-strong board of volunteers. There are four 'tenant board members'. They have equal decision-making power with the four board members nominated by the Council, and with the four 'independent' board members who bring specialist knowledge and expertise.
