After the tragic Camberwell high-rise fires in July, we were keen to review and re-affirm our fire safety procedures, with a focus on our high-rise blocks in Hulme, which have been built to prevent the spread of fire and provide plenty of escape routes.
Our high-rise safety systems
Our high-rise blocks are built with strong, protective building materials that efficiently prevent the spread of fire – and there is ample escape access in all of our high-rise buildings. Each high-rise block also has dry-risers, emergency lighting and firebreaks throughout - and each apartment has a working smoke alarm. We inspect these at least once a year. On top of this, our caretakers inspect each block every week on a ‘general housekeeping’ round, making sure all communal areas meet strict health and safety rules.
Future changes to safety measures
We’ll keep a close eye on the progress of the Camberwell fire investigations and put in place any relevant recommendations that might be made. If you would like to know more about our policy on fire safety, please email us on info@citysouthmanchester.co.uk Meanwhile, you can look at the latest fire safety leaflet from the fire service.
