The Manchester Mega Mela (the largest in the North West) is back at Platt Fields this weekend. And sure to please thousands with its colourful and vibrant celebration of South Asian music, dance and culture.
Dance, style and Dhol drums
Visit the Chai Serai marquee for some traditional, classical and contemporary performance. Enjoy the fashion show and find something unique for your wardrobe. Or join in the dance workshops and experience some Bollywood, Bhangra, and Dhol drumming.
Get involved with art and craft
Workshops include Rangoli, Henna painting and paper craft from 1.30pm to 6.30pm each day. There’ll also be renowned international artists from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka - plus local artists –displaying their work. So pick up some unique art, enjoy some henna painting, and even have a go yourself.
Fun and food
There’s plenty to keep everyone happy, whatever your age, and whatever your tastes. There’s a circus, with children’s circus workshops from 2pm to 6pm. There’s also two stages of music and dance, tug-of-war, and the stone-lifting challenge. Plus food from all the regions to keep your tastebuds busy.

For those of you who like literature, there’ll be poetry from across the globe as poets join together on Sunday afternoon.

Councillor Mike Amesbury, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure said: “We’re delighted to see the Manchester Mela return to Platt Fields park for what has become one of the biggest events in the city’s calendar. It celebrates the rich cultural diversity we enjoy here so well and it’s wonderful to welcome so many people to the city for what is always a fantastic couple of days.”
The details
The Mega Mela starts at 12 noon each day, on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July, and lasts until 9pm. It’s free to enter. Car parking costs £3.
