Charlotte Hughes is a 23 year old mum and tenant from Hulme. She was diagnosed with advanced cervical cancer three years ago and has so far endured three major operations and a series of chemotherapy treatments. The ‘Charlotte's Shining Star' campaign is her huge effort to get the government to reduce the age for cervical screening from 25 to 18 years old.
How we're helping
When we heard that Charlotte was in hospital receiving her third set of chemotherapy, we teamed up with our building partners, Manchester Working, to speed up the improvements to her home. We also encouraged all our staff to sign Charlotte's petition to change the age limit for cervical cancer screening.
Help to change the law
Charlotte said: “It's made a big difference getting back and being able to rest in a nice home. I'm also really chuffed about getting more names on the petition. With loads more like that, I'm sure we'll get the law changed to save more women's lives.”
