What is City South?
City South Manchester Housing Trust is a "not-for-profit" 'local housing company' that took ownership of nearly 4,500 homes from Manchester City Council in June 2008.
We manage and improve homes in Fallowfield, Hulme, Moss Side and Whalley Range. Council tenants in these areas voted for the change in a ballot in July 2007. The proposal document they voted on describes the City South role in detail .
Independent body
City South was created by tenants' reps and the City Council to deliver an exciting package of home improvements, and top-notch housing services. We're a completely separate and independent body; although we work in partnership with the council on many issues - like tackling antisocial behaviour.
We have access to multi-million pound resources to pay for vital improvements to bring all housing to the government's 'decent homes' standard - and beyond. See Home Improvements.
Who runs City South?
A board of 12 volunteers makes the policies and plans for City South, setting our wider aims and objectives and making sure that the staff working day-to-day meet standards of service.
There are four 'tenant board members'. They have equal decision-making power with the four board members nominated by the Council - councillors and senior staff - and with the four - 'independent' board members who are people with specialist knowledge. Meet the board.
Most people who work for City South are ex-Manchester City Council staff who transferred automatically to the new organisation. They are joined by some brand new staff who add new skills and ideas to the solid base of local knowledge and experience.
