Transport authorities in Greater Manchester are embarking on a transformative journey to enhance the Bee Network's bus services, unveiling an extensive array of updates that promise significant improvements to public transport across the area. This initiative marks the most comprehensive upgrades since the region reclaimed control over its bus services in September 2023—an unprecedented move in the UK for the past four decades.
Revamping Connectivity with New Night Buses
In a landmark announcement made this week, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, emphasized the importance of this initiative, describing it as “the most significant and wide-ranging upgrades to the Bee Network” since the details of bus franchising were completed earlier this year.
Among the key changes set to roll out later this year are five brand new night bus routes aimed at providing 24-hour transport options to areas previously devoid of such services. Boroughs including Oldham, Stockport, Tameside, and Trafford will benefit from this expansion, thereby ensuring round-the-clock connectivity for around 625,400 residents who work in various nocturnal jobs across Greater Manchester.
New Routes and Frequency Increases
Not limited to night services, the proposed changes encompass three new bus services aimed at better connecting various regions including Woodford Garden Village to Stockport town center, and linking Wigan and St Helens with additional stops along the way. Enhanced connections will also span critical employment and visitor hubs like Manchester Airport, Kingsway Business Park in Rochdale, and the ever-popular Trafford Centre.
Furthermore, more frequent bus services will be established on high-demand routes, notably enhancing the connection between Middleton and Kingsway Business Park, and on services between Oldham and Failsworth.
Expanding Accessibility to Key Locations
As part of the service improvements, bus timetables will also be aligned with the shift patterns at numerous employment sites. For instance, Logistics North in Bolton will see adjusted timetables to better meet the needs of the working community. These upgrades aim not just to enhance convenience but to stimulate local economies by improving access to jobs and opportunities.
TfGM (Transport for Greater Manchester) revealed that these plans are anticipated to materialize during the 2026/27 fiscal year, pending final budget approvals.

The borough will see increased evening bus service frequency, notably linking Ramsbottom with Bolton and enhancing connectivity with Rochdale and Salford.
Manchester
Services will benefit from route restructuring, particularly the 368 service to Manchester Airport, which will now operate throughout the day rather than just during mornings.
Oldham
Oldham's residents will enjoy an improved 83 bus service, offering more trips to Manchester city center, as well as new night bus options.
Rochdale
Changes will bolster bus frequency on the 434 route and improve service linkage with Bury and Bolton.
Salford
The service 95 will receive timetable improvements during weekends and in the evenings to better connect with Bury.
Stockport
Stockport will gain a new route linking the town center with Woodford Garden Village, alongside enhanced night bus services.
Tameside
A new bus route will connect Ashton to Hyde, expanding late-night services for local communities.
Trafford
